Come on ‘en, let’s get into it.
At S3, our production team covers anything audio-visual. Our team is composed of a variety of individuals that provide us with the ability to cover all areas of production. We’re talking making a TV advert to radio, content production to photography and VFX to animation, our skillset sees us bite big time after time. (And of course, our media team will advise a thing or two about what channels or places to show your film, too).
It’s more than just a form of production each time however, it’s all about conveying emotion or action, something video and photography executions allow you to do more than most. Providing insight, telling stories, adding character, and taking your consumer on a journey – we enable your brand to mean something in front of your audience and invite them to join you on your journey, depicting what it is that makes your mean something to them.
Working with an agency on a production project becomes essential when representing your brand on an emotional level. Within an agency, we work to make something beautiful, yes, but we also want to communicate meaning, and leverage insight to inspire and influence. These methods allow us to create something unified, with legs and strategy, something that could grow and flourish into more.
Hiring an integrated agency like S3 means you get expertise at every angle. Not just in production but also in creative, strategy, PR and social, in media distribution and digital marketing, we work together to provide a truly immersive and well-rounded service – making sure our output works for all.
It goes further than that though because not only are the majority of agencies collaborative internally, but externally too. We understand that producing great can sometimes also require the use of professionals and specialists from various other industries, too, taking any conceptual idea, and adding even greater production value and quality. We know a good bunch!
It really depends who you’re talking to, but at S3 our philosophy is clear – we’re where the little bite big. It catapults everything we do.
S3’s production dept and process is full of people we call ‘T-Shaped’. We have specialists in areas such as ideation, cinematography, photography, visual direction, animation, editing and content production – who all share the ability to collaborate across multi-disciplines. This provides our clients with well-rounded expertise in every project. With an ability to support and work closely with each other, we’re able to explore direction in each area of expertise for better end results.
Touched on earlier, being a smaller, more agile unit allows us to externally collaborate and direct a much larger team with efficient and honest communication throughout a project timeline.
We work with and among whizzes across the industry to ensure high value with a considered, targeted and strategic approach to production and its distribution. These types of relationships see projects such as making a video advert taken to the next level depending on budget and ambition. Collaborating with the likes of external costume and makeup, lighting productions, set-creators, Director’s of Photography, music sourcing boffins and whatever else is needed to bring an idea to life!
A strong agency has the ability to deliver a comprehensive bank of assets, each clear in communication, crafted to achieve client project objectives – and that’s just what we do.
Quite honestly – it depends; sometimes video production isn’t actually the best form of communication to reach your end goal. Which is why our planning and strategy teams, as well as creative use S3 methodology to get to the bottom of what you want to achieve, before providing you with insight and a the best path available for you to directly solve your problem.
For sure though, those looking to communicate their brand and personality to consumers, looking to put themselves in front of their audience and present an authentic approach to marketing should look to an audio-visual approach as it’s the most expressive and flexible way to do so.
When considering video and photography, it’s important to ensure output is anchored to something meaningful with direction and approach. There are many ways this could play out, but here’s one for thought. In the majority of our projects, S3’s creative departmentplants a seed and places an idea at the core of a campaign; our strategist team working alongside to ensure its direction grows only from something of purpose, able to hold on to the same single-minded thought throughout. Once a concept and big thought has been landed, it’s our job to bring it to life alongside them.
An example of how this approach works well is from our latest campaign for Clogau, which saw our production department create an advertisement seen by millions in conjunction with our planning, creative, social, digital and media planning/buying teams.
Clogau - It's Who You Share It With
For Clogau, our production value needed to communicate the idea of intrinsic sentiment – translating the brand idea ‘When you’ve lost your way in the world, Clogau navigates you back to what really matters.’
But to perfectly show how an idea like this meets our expertise, it’s not ALL about an emotional response, but also in detailing. Throughout the advertisement, we needed to hero the jewellery worn by the family in our concept as well as land a very relatable story. The sort of things that leads to rounds of Director’s treatments, extensive storyboarding and thoroughly planned pre-production to bring a final product together exactly as intended. We’re all about success and so every detail of preparation goes into production to make sure we can achieve the objectives set by a brand, without the feel of sales pitch or intrusion on our audience. B-E-A-utiful!
The next step sees our media team strategise and place our final, agreed with client output in the most effective and impactful places, able to intercept and engage the audience of a brand for results. In Clogau’s case, this saw our emotionally charged video production launch on the opening night of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here. The same year it was set in North Wales, just a stones throw away from our shoot location choice.
When it all comes together to create a perfect result, it becomes clear just how significant the production process can be in helping brands stand out among their competition. The question isn’t always ‘is video production something I need’ rather, is it something I can afford to compete without?
