“Social media is just writing some words and posting it alongside an image, right?!”
Oh, absolutely. As social media agency managers, all we actually do is sit and play on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all day. (Is the sarcasm coming off…?)
Yes, writing some copy, pairing it with pictures and posting it to social media feeds is a part of the job, but if that post is to have any success then what’s the strategy behind it? How’s that strategy being implemented? And how are results being measured to ensure it’s working and doesn’t need to be tweaked?
Social media is so much more than just being about having a presence online, it’s another marketing channel and requires the same kind of forward-thinking planning as any other. But, to throw a spanner in the works, unlike traditional marketing strategies, you don’t want to sound like you’re selling something. Actually, the key is to a true connection with your audience is by being authentic.
Wondering what that looks like? Ask any social media manager and I’m sure they’d agree one of the most perfect examples of a brand being authentic and playful is Innocent Drinks:
What do you think?
No pushy sales, but relatable content that taps into pop culture – and just look at that engagement. It takes guts for a brand to be this free but make no mistake there’s some serious work going on behind the scenes to ensure this fits their strategy.
As the CIPR’s (Chartered Institute of Public Relations) Social Media panel states, “Social media involves the building of communities or networks and encouraging participations and engagement.”
It’s securing that interaction – that engagement – and the building of these communities that we pride ourselves on here at S3 as our dedicated team truly recognise the power social media can have.
Well, first ask yourself, ‘how much time do I spend on social media each day?’ Now imagine having a company’s entire brand image in your hands. Yep, that’ll keep you pretty busy! A typical day for us can include a mix of:
Jack of all trades, eh?
Well, a bit – but what makes S3 worth working with is that within our social media team we all bring to the table our own specialisms.
While I’m now the Head of PR & Social Content, I was once working in a busy newsroom as a Broadcast Journalist; waking up at 3:30 every morning to write and read breakfast news bulletins on radio stations across Wales. This meant being on top of current affairs, remaining reactive and hitting tight deadlines – which comes in pretty useful when you’re trying to tap stay on top of ever-changing social media trends.
On the surface that’s what it might look like, but what you won’t see on brands’ beautiful feeds is the hours of market research, planning and strategy that goes into ensuring a piece of content they post is right for the ‘gram. Or tweet. Or newsfeed.
It’s this preparation and detailed research, paired with our creativity that makes social media accounts we work across effective at engaging their target audiences.
But we don’t do it alone. We work with dedicated teams across our integrated agency to ensure each campaign has the right tools and people behind it. For example, what’s really beneficial about having S3 as your social media agency is that the content production team work alongside us, in-house.
Not only are they involved in creating a visual style for the brands we work with from the offset, but they also sit in on monthly brainstorms meaning they’re participating in the curation of images, videos, gifs or graphics from the get-go, rather than having to be briefed in afterwards. It means they share our absolute passion for social – and you’ll actually often see them sharing client work they’re proud of across their own, personal accounts!
You see, while some might like to believe success on social media comes down to luck, that’s just not true. Sorry! The best social media strategy is built on a true understanding of a client, their business, industry, target audience and competitors. Not to forget the hours of community engagement going on in the background!
The simple answer? Because we know what it takes to get your brand to the next level.
Our dedicated team will work with you, collaborating to identify your goals and put in place the steps to get you there, all whilst being re-active to the ever-changing social media landscape.
Oh, and it really is ever-changing.
See the rise in reach of Instagram in recent years? Well, a big part of our job is remaining ahead of the curve of the next trend, platform or content for our clients.
But thankfully, my team’s made up of people like Content Executive, Lauren Dutson; our resident selfie-taking, Insta-making, Tik-toking, tweeting machine. Give her a brand, tone of voice and target audience and she’ll put them at the heart of a consumer’s daily journey. Since working at S3 she’s worked across multiple sectors – creating work for Mallow & Marsh, Oppo Ice Cream, Brace’s Bakery, Study in Wales and The Wine Caverns to name a few.
Also part of the team is Emily Gardner; our PR & Social Specialist. With a background in PR and social media for the public sector, she’s now girl behind the ‘gram for many of S3’s social clients working on the likes of Visit Southern Wales, Rutherford Cancer Centres and Clogau. After working day-in, day-out on social accounts and projects you might think we wouldn’t want to hear the words Facebook or LinkedIn ever again, but you’d be mistaken. Just like you we spend our evenings scrolling, double-tapping, retweeting and liking to our heart’s content – not only across our own feeds, but our clients’ too.
Hopefully, we’ve already got to the heart of answering that.
But, put simply, if you’ve got a story to tell or a message to communicate then the answer is yes.
Storytelling is at the heart of what we do. We’ve worked across a range of sectors from tourism to education, health and almost everything in between – including a standout campaign for ice cream brand Oppo, which resulted in an excess of 560k impressions and 6.5k engagements.
Meanwhile, our campaign for Mid Wales Tourism campaign exceeded every KPI, with a reach of over 2,700,000, 79,000+ video views, 22,000+ engagements and 1,600+ new followers in just a couple of months.
